Project Brief
This project focused on developing a black-and-white symbol logo derived from a self-portrait, emphasizing simplicity and the application of Gestalt design principles. I began by photographing a head-and-shoulders portrait and experimenting with light, shadow, and contrast in Adobe Photoshop to create reference variations. From these, I produced hand-drawn sketches that abstracted key facial features into simplified shapes and forms. The final symbol was refined digitally in Adobe Illustrator, focusing on clarity, balance, and consistent line work. The resulting logo captures my identity through minimal, expressive visual elements and was designed for use as a personal mark across digital platforms.
Process
When creating this project, I aimed to capture my likeness by emphasizing my most recognizable features. By manipulating the levels and curves in Photoshop, I identified that my hair, glasses, and beard stood out the most. These elements were accentuated with contrast, with the key characteristics being the darkest to draw attention. Shadows were then added to convey a sense of depth.
